Fabrik Planeten by JacobCharlesDietz Fabrik Planeten by JacobCharlesDietz
I know, I know - another industrial environment with shitty weather. What can I say? I started playing around and it just happened. Maybe I secretly wish I was back home in Seattle? Yeah, doubtful, but I do rather like my sci-fi scenes to be dreary, so enjoy it for what it is and try not to get too depressed.

So just purely outta simple wonderment.... is there a connection between the Monsanto logo and the Imperial shuttle and Ti Fighters? If so that just friken funny, to me at least, cuz I know alllllllll about Monsanto's Empire and how they are... but then again it could be pure coincidence... anyway.... yeah love this pic for just playing.. :-)

Industrial environment with shitty weather and the Emperor comes to visit in it's shuttle (Two TIE-Fighter escort!) What a perfect day. ^-^

I think weather adds to the mood of an image, and I like rain! By making things murky, the viewer's imagination is forced into the viewing the details hidden (or ghosted) by the atmospheric effects. I think you use it well and to great advantage, and that is a special talent as well. Hey, even I would like to be known as the world's (and all-time) greatest "atmospherics painter" ... a title that will hold others up for scrutiny. (Well, won;t happen for me, but some one will earn that title, I am sure. Why not you?

Anyway, it is a marvelous image and shows lots great talent and ideas.
Well done! :D

Thanks for the positive words, they're much appreciated. As for the software used, this one was all done in Vue Infinite and postworked in Photoshop.

This is nice!

That is ship is from Star Wars, it's an Imperial Shuttle. If you could change it for something else would be better, cause it is a remarkable ship, so feel a little bit "wrong" in that environment, know what I'm saying?

Very neat image. Wouldn't surprise me to see Bogart in a trench coat snooping about the joint.
I like the evil machine "face" in the background, too. Was that on purpose, or just a happy accident?

Thanks! You know, I hadn't actually noticed the face before, so definitely a happy accident, but glad you pointed it out :)

Your artwork pretty much defines "dystopian" and it always rocks hard. Is the clouding all postwork?

Thanks,DDC! The clouding is actually a mix of postwork and a really thick atmosphere. The post bits are really the more discernible textures where the CG bits are more 'misty' for lack of a better term.

Very cool! Love your dirty scenes. The truck is one of rj001's with your textures, right?

Thanks! And yes, the truck was part of a set from rj001. I tried to credit him for it in my gallery post at Rendo, but it doesn't seem to still be in the store - I think it was 2009 Sci-fi Trucks or something. I love his stuff, on of the best values out there IMHO.

Yes, rj's models are great. With the way they are grouped, the can be quite easily textures in Vue even without UV mapping and they can also be animated nicely. I probably have 75% of his store.

Ciao

I really like this. And yes, it's true, you often choose dreary weather, but you know, that's realistic in my books. On heavily industrialized worlds (with maybe one or the other natural or aritificial disaster happening and a lot of pollution) you just get cloud cover and more or less healthy rain. So that's absolutely fine. It adds hugely to the atmosphere.

I also kinda like how you keep sneaking in either Star Wars or Star Trek... uh... let's say 'vehicles'. A Firefly class would fit well, too. In this case Vader or Palpatine are around for a visit I guess. Maybe they found the droids they were looking for? ;)

So, from my point of view; do keep up the dreariness. I like it!
